This 16-Year-Old Ovarian Cancer Survivor’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ Audition Will Make You Sob

Confession: I’ve written stories before where I’ve said videos will “make you cry” when I have not, in fact, shed any tears while watching the video. I apologize to those I have deceived, and I’m here to redeem myself. This video—this video right here, people—led to actual tears streaming down my cheeks. The clip is from this week’s episode of America’s Got Talent, and it shows 16-year-old singer Calysta Bevier’s audition for the show. When she steps up for her audition, judge Howie Mandel compliments her cropped hair, telling her she has an Audrey Hepburn look to her. Bevier shares that her short hair wasn’t really her decision.

“The hair wasn’t really my choice. I’m a survivor of Stage 3 ovarian cancer,” she bravely tells the audience. “I kind of came here today to show people that no matter what you’ve gone through, to keep chasing your dreams.”
